Medical Lab Assistant/Technician
Medix College’s Medical Lab Assistant/Technician (MLAT) provides graduates with the technical knowledge and skills to start a career in healthcare. You will gain confidence and familiarity collecting, processing, and preparing patient specimens, entering data, performing clerical and reception services.

Graduates also leave the program knowing how to perform ECGs and urinalyses. After graduating you will be qualified to write a third party examination and achieve their ‘Certified Lab Assistant’ designation through the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). Please note, all examinations are at the option and expense of the graduate and Medix encourages students to become certified.

Career Outlook

With the increasing demand for healthcare services and diagnostic testing, there is a growing need for skilled MLATs to perform laboratory tests and procedures. Additionally, as advancements in medical technology continue to evolve, MLATs will play an essential role in adapting to and utilizing these innovations.

• Medical Lab Technician Assistant graduates will be eligible to write both the provincial (MLPAO) and national (CSMLS) exams to gain industry certification in the field.
